   Thinking of Vietnam unfortunately immediately comes to mind the bloody war of the 1960-70s, which obviously had many consequences for this Indochina country in the following decades; Vietnam has a very elongated and narrow physiognomy and stretches out towards the South China Sea, in the north-western extremity there are the highest mountains, while the rest of the territory is mainly hilly and flat, in particular at the mouth of Mekong and Red River.

ADMINISTRATIVE DIVISIONS OF VIETNAM

   In Vietnam there are 58 provinces and 5 city municipalities, which are administratively on the same level; the provinces of Nghe An and Gia Lai are the largest and the only, albeit slightly, over 15,000 kmē of surface area, while the two municipalities of Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi have the largest number of inhabitants, both more than double compared to the most populous province, Thanh Hoa.

   The distribution of the major cities is mainly concentrated around the two metropolises Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, with some exceptions; in all there are 25 inhabited centers with more than 200,000 inhabitants.
